Job Summary:

60 year old camp with a strong tradition of serving the youth and family of Stark County. Facility include: Main Lodge, 14 camper cabins, waterfront, equine outpost ranch, Adirondack shelter outpost camp, main barn and riding rings, group initiative course, and zip lines.

Recent significant capital improvements have been made to all areas of camp including dining hall, program, infrastructure, and staff housing. Camper cabins to be completed prior to the 2019 camp season. Camp has a strong tradition of providing quality traditional camp programs as well equine programs. Camp is the beneficiary of a $2,000,000 dedicated endowment fund.

The Summer Camp Director is responsible for all program operations and implementation of all activities occurring at Camp Tippecanoe. This includes program preparation and implementation, staff and camper recruitment and retention, planning, and budgeting. Successful applicants will have experience in a variety of programming and experience in donor/alumni development. Camp is ACA accredited.

The YMCA of Central Stark County has a strong history of operating success: 1 out of 10 people in
the service area are Y members, 20 consecutive years of balanced budgets and high member
satisfaction ratings. Stark County is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent training
  • 2 or more year's full time camping experience
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to walk, stand and sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds in weight
  • Position requires bending, leaning, kneeling and walking

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manages, directs and coordinates programs at YMCA Camp Tippecanoe. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands camp program within the Association in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops camp budget and ensures camp operates within budget.
  • Purchases of camp supplies, equipment, food, merchandise-for-resale and other expenditures.
  • Assures compliance with national, state and local regulations as they relate to program area. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to camp. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Works with Camp Registrar in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Participates in monthly Board and Committee meetings.
  • Responsible for special events at camp and assist with fundraising efforts.
